This afternoon I walked over to our local library to return two books and pick up a book I had on hold. I discovered, as you can see, that while the library was open it wasn’t really open.
They had a cart blocking the entrance and a librarian waiting there to help anyone (like me) who was there to pick up a book. While I’m happy I could get my hold, I was sad that I couldn’t take a few minutes to browse the stacks.
Now, I don’t know exactly what caused today’s staffing shortage but I’m willing to get the Library’s sad budget had something to do with it. I’m a strong believer that people should pay their taxes (yes, including rich people!) and that the government should use those tax dollars to fund things like… people to keep our libraries open.
I know, that’s radical thinking these days.
