Hey, remember blogging?

Marisa just posted on her blog for the first time in awhile and laments the sad state of personal blogging:

The other thing that I found striking as I scanned through the list of blogs that had gone dark was how many of them were my blogging people. The folks I discovered in my early days and struck up real friendships with. I miss those early days of blogging, when you didn’t need perfect pictures and a post didn’t require a vigorous social media campaign in order to find some readers.

Of course I’m still reading Marisa’s blog (we are married and all), but I’ve also felt the same way as she has.

Which is why I’ve been posting more on this little old blog! I have no idea if anyone is still reading this blog, but gosh darn it I’m enjoying blogging again.

  1. Still here. Still reading!
My RSS aggregator recommended that I unfollow inactive blogs, but I thought, “No! What if that person comes back?!?”

  2. Still reading. My blog has been inactive for years. Seems like everyone still writing is on FB/Twitter/Medium, etc. I don’t much care for building your brand in someone else’s business model and even if you are doing it for fun, what happens when they close-up shop? You lose all your content? What happens if Verizon decides to kill Tumblr?
I think the 199x-200X period was special. We were all younger, less entrenched in our careers (some of those same anonymous/pseudonymous bloggers professionally write on LinkedIn), maybe before spouses and family, it was all new, and you could at least passively make enough money without really trying to pay for your hosting. We don’t have the kind of time that blogging requires anymore.

  3. Still reading, enjoying your takes on books!
I gave up blogging years ago. I just don’t have much to say, really.

  4. I still read what you say. Unsubscribing takes more effort than leaving the RSS feed in my reader, after all.
Yeah, the personal blog era was pretty fun!
